Car hits pedestrians in New York's Times Square

At least 10 people have been injured and one is dead after a speeding car struck pedestrians in New York City's Times Square, reported Sky News (UK).

A witness told Reuters news agency they have seen seven people being loaded onto stretchers, shoes scattered around the scene and one person covered in a bloodstained blanket.
An injured pedestrian says the driver's actions appeared to have been "intentional".

Other witnesses said the vehicle drove against traffic and onto the pavement before striking the pedestrians.
CBS has reported that the vehicle involved was a red saloon and that the driver has been removed.


At least one person was killed and 20 more people are injured after a car struck and injured several pedestrians in Times Square in New York City Thursday, the Associated Press has reported and PBS Newshour has published.

Law enforcement was testing to determine if the car’s driver had consumed alcohol before getting behind the wheel, the Associated Press reported.

The red sedan overturned, resting on steel barricades designed to protect pedestrians and block vehicular traffic. The front end of the car appeared severely damaged in photos posted on social media after the event happened.

The New York City Police Department confirmed on Twitter that the vehicle collided with pedestrians shortly after noon.


According to the New York Fire Department, 13 patients were being treated at the scene of the crash involving a maroon sedan. It's not clear what caused the accident, reported USA Today.
