Obama meets Ukrainian President-elect Poroshenko

Video Preview

President Barack Obama is meeting with the man he hopes can unite Ukraine and pull it out of a crisis that has reignited East-West divisions - reported the AP.

Obama's first private meeting with Petro Poroshenko comes 10 days after he was elected to take over Ukraine. The country has been badly fractured since pro-European protests overthrew Ukraine's pro-Russian president earlier this year.

Obama is in Warsaw to help commemorate the 25th anniversary of Poland's first partially free election. Obama plans to point to Poland as an example of democratic progress for the people in neighboring Ukraine in a public speech Wednesday.

Obama is warning Russian President Vladimir Putin not to stoke divisions in Ukraine. Instead, he wants Putin to recognize Poroshenko's election and begin rebuilding trust with the West.
