Tom Hanks Voted Number One Celebrity That Should Run For President

Video Preview

Ever since Trump entered the White House we've realised that seeing a celebrity figure in one of the world's most important positions of power is no longer such a far-fetched idea. Which means that people should probably start thinking about what is no longer the hypothetical question of which A-lister they want to see as President, reported LADbible.

Enter ranking site Ranker, which has posed that exact question to the masses, asking people which celebrity they would actually vote for if they ran for Prez.

"If you think about it, being President of the United States isn't all that different from being a regular celebrity," poll poster Jacob Shelton wrote. "People with no knowledge of what you really do are constantly criticizing you, you spend most of your time on a private airplane, and you have a giant posse."

Topping the list is the one and only Tom Hanks, whose back catalogue of sterling films include Forrest Gump, Cast Away, Saving Private Ryan, Big and the Toy Story franchise. More recently, he's even taken on the role of Walt Disney in 2013's Saving Mr Banks, as well as American pilot Chelsey Sullenburger in 2016 biograpical drama Sully.

Politically, he's not afraid to get involved, either, having previously spoken out in supporter of same-sex marriage and environmental causes. He also publicly endorsed Barack Obama in the 2008 presidential election, as well as Hillary Clinton in 2016.

In the runner-up spot is comedian and presenter Ellen DeGeneres, who is known for her work with gay rights, animal rights and humanitarianism - and was even awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom (the country's highest civilian honour) by President Obama in 2016.

Morgan Freeman was ranked third, followed by Jon Stewart and Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson in fourth and fifth place. The rest of the top 10 also featured Oprah Winfrey, Clint Eastwood, Stephen Colbert, Chuck Norris and Bill Nye.

In the top 100 list there were many popular, big-name actors, musicians and politicians like Beyonce, Michelle Obama, George Clooney, Samuel L. Jackson, Eminem, Amy Poehler, Robert De Niro, Sylvester Stallone, Jay Z, Angelina Jolie and smooth talker Will Smith.

But there were some slightly odd additions in there, too, including Snoop Dogg, Taylor Swift and Shania Twain.
And in at 37th was none other than Jesus Christ - but then anything goes these days, so we probably shouldn't rule him out...

Sadly Kanye didn't make it on the list, despite the fact he's already announced he's seriously considering running for the presidency. Sorry, pal.
