It was a lucky escape for an Arbroath dog after firefighters waded through ice on Keptie Pond to save the stranded pooch on Saturday.
The owner of the dog told the Dundee control room that it had chased a duck across the pond and had subsequently fallen through the thin ice.
Bystanders and well wishers praised the efforts of the crew after Murray Lockhart caught the action on camera and posted the video on community facebook forum ‘Arbroath Online’.
The local knowledge of the firefighters allowed them to affect the safe rescue of the dog utilising their wet weather equipment, lifejackets and large axes as they broke the ice and waded through the pond to reach the dog. The owner was extremely grateful and thanked firefighters for their efforts.
