Four killed in Jerusalem synagogue attack

Two men, thought to be Palestinians armed with axes, knives and guns have killed at least four worshippers in a Jerusalem synagogue - reported the SkyNews.

The incident happened at around 7am local time at Kehilot Yaakov synagogue in Har Nof neighbourhood.

The suspects were shot dead by police at the scene.
Six people are said to have been wounded, four of them seriously including two police officers.

The attack is the worst in Jerusalem since 2008, when a Palestinian gunman shot dead eight people in a religious seminary school.

Israeli TV footage showed the synagogue surrounded by police and rescue workers following the attack.

"The man with the knife approached me. There was a chair and table between us ... my prayer shawl got caught. I left it there and escaped," one worshipper told Israeli Channel 2 TV.

Police say the attackers were Palestinians from east Jerusalem.

The Islamist group Hamas and hailed the attack as a reaction to the death of a Palestinian bus driver on Sunday night.

The driver, Yusuf Ramuni, was found hanged inside his vehicle. Israeli police described it as suicide although his family said they suspected foul play.
