Iconic toy 'Etch-A-Sketch' inventor dies

Andre Cassagnes, the inventor of the iconic and award-winning drawing toy Etch A Sketch, passed away in the age of 86 in Paris.
Etch A Sketch embedded in many people’s childhood memories since 1960 when it was introduced in the United States by Ohio Art Co. It became the top selling Christmas toy immediately. Since then many adults are “playing” with the toy making art.
The original version of the famous toy that plays on creativity lets sketchers twist two knobs on a red, plastic frame to displace aluminum powder on the back of a gray screen with a stylus, leaving a line drawing that can be erased with a quick shake.
The electrical technician was recognized as a talented and famous modular kite designer before inventing the game. He was called the “Ingenious Father of French Kiting” at that time.
Later his Etch A Sketch won several American toy awards, became the part of American pop culture and it even turned up in movies such as “Toy Story”.
Etch A Sketch is displayed in Oregon's National Toy Hall of Fame and is on the Toy Industry Association's "Century of Toys" list – a list that features the few most influential toys of all time.
