Robot and astronaut bid farewell on ISS

Japanese astronaut Koichi Wakata bids farwell to an unusual colleague, a robot named Kirobo, on the International Space Station.

As part of his 6 month mission, Mr Wakata held experiments on robot-human conversations with Kirobo, the first talking humanoid in space.

Kirobo is programmed to process questions and select words from its vocabulary to construct an answer, instead of giving pre-programmed responses.

Mr Wakata finished his mission in space on Tuesday, during which he also served as the first Japanese commander aboard the space station.

As Mr Wakata apologised for having to leave him behind, the robot replied, "I'll be alright, I'm a robot".
Kirobo is scheduled to return to Earth at the end of this year and the two promised to speak when he gets back.
